VCO system and roles

The Varnasrama College ONLINE teaching system is composed of:

  • Faculties
  • Program Leaders
  • Courses
  • Teachers
  • Students

Programs are comprised of Courses that contain Modules.

Courses are categorized by Faculty:

  • Philosophy
  • Education
  • Governance
  • Economics
  • Traditional Technologies

Program Leaders

We have Program Leaders each having a specific area of responsibility corresponding to what represents the five main faculties of VCO:  There will naturally be many sub sections or sub faculties to these five main Faculties and that we will gradually identify and announce.

Program Leaders will identify and connect Teachers and Course subjects corresponding to a particular field of knowledge.   Each Program Leader will select courses being proposed by different Teachers or Faculty Members so that the present proposed courses and any future course fall in one of these five main faculties.

Teachers

We are currently assembling a team of teachers who are keen to offer courses.  All those who wish to teach online must fill out a Teacher Registration & Agreement Form:

Teachers can fill in an online Course Application Form to identify the course they wish to teach.  After you register on the website, a course application form will be available on your user page

Students

All students who wish to take courses will need to fill in a Student Registration Form:

VCO Courses, Fees & Accreditation

Approved VCO Teachers have a choice of three options to offer their selected courses.

To ensure quality control and in keeping with our Vaisnava Acharyas all courses are first evaluated and then approved by the VCO Review Board.

All VCO courses will fall in one of three categories:

  •     Upfront Payment
  •     Dakshina after course
  •     Free

Upon filling in the Registration Form and upon being approved as a student of VCO, students will then proceed to chose from a list of available VCO courses that will have already been approved and categorized in the above mentioned three categories.

Note that a Teacher who offers multiple courses may codify the categories differently, sometimes offering a course in category 1, 2 or 3 depending on the length and nature of the course, depending on the expenses incurred in preparing the course and other considerations.

While VCO upholds and promotes the traditional Vedic Dakshina system where students are required to offer Dakshina to their Teachers at the end of their education, we also recognize that until society is able to support the Brahmana Teachers, in some instances financial considerations will need to be met.

In our Vedic literatures Dakshina is listed as being mandatory for a student and can be given in the form of Laksmi (money), kind (grains, gift or other) or direct service. The Teacher, in discussion with the student, will approve and sanction.

Upon completion of specific courses, only those students who have fulfilled their obligations in categories 1 and 2 will be eligible to receive accreditation that will gradually lead towards certification.

Online Tutorial for Teachers

Tirtharaja prabhu, who has been doing online teaching for the past 8 years, will soon explain how registered Teachers can take these tutorials that will teach how to prepare your materials for giving online courses.
